Building a Pipeline Tutorial

In this tutorial, we will build a pipeline in Arundo Fabric. We will also build a dashboard to display the data output by the pipeline.

The tutorial is divided into the following sections:

  • Learning Objectives - things you will know how to do after completing the tutorial.
  • Setup - set up necessary before you get started.
  • Instructions - instructions on how to complete the tutorial.
  • Finishing Up - challenges and further reading for after the tutorial.

Learning Objectives

After completing this tutorial, you will know how to:

  • Build pipelines
  • Build dashboards
  • Display pipeline output on dashboards

Before you start the tutorial, you must do the following:

  • Get an Arundo Fabric user account
  • Build a machine learning model for use in the pipeline
  • Publish the model in Arundo Composer
  • Add input tags for the model in Arundo Edge or the Tags Manager

Now let's get started...

1. Build a Pipeline

The first step is to build a pipeline using the Pipelines Manager. To do this, complete the following:

  1. Access Arundo Fabric.
  2. Select Pipelines on the Navigation bar.
  3. Click + Create New Pipeline.
  4. Select Streaming.
  5. Locate the model to use for the pipeline and click + Add.

The model displays on the diagram, with links indicating required inputs and outputs.

  6. Click the links on the model and specify inputs and outputs.

    • You can only use existing tags as inputs.
    • You can use existing tags or new tags as outputs.

2. Build a Dashboard

The second step is to build a dashboard using the Dashboard Builder. To do this, complete the following:

  1. Click the Arundo logo at the top of the page.
  2. Select Dashboards on the Navigation bar.

    The Dashboards Builder displays.

  3. Click Create Dashboard.

  4. Click the dashboard name, enter a name, and click Save Changes.
  5. Add a panel to show data on the dashboard:

    1. Click New in the bottom right corner of the page.
    2. Under Panel Name, enter a name for the panel to indicate the data shown.
    3. Under Select a Panel Type, select a display format for the panel.
    4. Under Define Source, select the tag for which to display values on the panel.
    5. In Units, enter unit of measurement for the data shown.
    6. Adjust the Precision and Limits & Colors as necessary.
  6. Adjust the size and position of the panel:

    • Drag and drop the panel into the desired position.
    • Drag the bottom right corner of the panel to adjust its size.
  7. Click Save Changes.

  8. Repeat Steps 5 to 7 to add additional panels to the dashboard.

3. View the Dashboard

The final step is to view the dashboard. To do this, click Open this dashboard in View Mode under the dashboard name. A preview of the dashboard displays in a new tab.

Dashboard example

To make the dashboard visible to other users, do the following:

  1. Move back to the Dashboards Builder.
  2. Click Dashboards in the top left corner of the page.
  3. Click Draft next to the dashboard.

Finishing Up

Congratulations! You've now built a pipeline in Arundo Fabric. We hope you now understand how to use pipelines to enhance your data analytics.

Want to expand your knowledge further? Try the following:

Install Arundo Edge and connect it to your industrial control system. This will give you the ability to stream sensor data from your industrial assets to Arundo Fabric. You can then send the data through a machine learning model in a pipeline and display the results on a dashboard.
